Non-R1 DVDs, that is, or I guess non- whatever region you bought the BDP in.Anyways, the well-known free *software* (not firmware) CD file you play that converts the BDP-83 to R0 does still work with the latest FW. There are apparently extremely few DVDs that won't play with a player set to R0 [edit: this is up to the DVD creator; some DVDs need an exact region match, never encountered it myself]. To the best of my experience, the R0 "sticks" as long as you don't unplug the player.
Somebody asked a while ago, and I wasn't sure because I was *intentionally* using an older FW version (fix some things, break some others lol). Nice that Oppo allows you to go back and forth with FW at whim...
