I've had a Sony VPL-HS20 since 2004,still going strong after all these years.Only drawback is that it is only 1080I,but still has a great picture.
I only have room on the wall for a 126" picture before the speakers get in the way.
For those that say you can't use the wall as a screen,I disagree. I painted my wall a light grey(Smooth Pebble from Lowes)which gives a better contrast than a white screen.
A friend has a $3200 "acousticaly transparent" screen,and I am not impressed. I also hate to think what would happen if one of his grandkids wipes his jelly or chocolate fingers on it...
I haven't kept up on the current projectors,so I can't reccommend any one in particular,but I can recommend getting a projector if you want a big screen.
Oh,and get big speakers,too.
