Re: Acurus ACT3 processor vs. ?

Main reason is its price point vs performance as well as upgradeability/customer service. You may spend lots more on brand name like Krell or Lexicon MC1 but you may or may not gain a whole alot. B&K Ref30 is a no-frill pre/pro with all the realistic latest surround formats and true 'direct' from two channel to 5.1 channel in coupling with incredible sound whether it's 2 channel or THX-EX. If music is important to you and you want a unit that can deliver both: price and performance. You cannot go wrong with it. This is by far the best pre/pro that has occupied in my home. BTW, my previous prepros were ACT3 and Denon AVP8000. Denon was a much better unit than ACT3 but a bit less refined than Ref30 and it doesn't have DTS. My chief complaints with the ACT-3 were mainly the loud hiss noise and its poor bass management control in the early version.
