The Arcam is a great player, I looked at it because I've had the Arcam MCD for a few years and IMHO it's one of the best multidisc players out there. I use the digital out and use it as a transport to my AVP. Arcam makes great equipment at that price point and it will keep you out of the Japanese mass market crap. Though I wouldn't consider both Pioneer Elite and Sony ES crap. I went with the Proceed PMDT because both my amp and processor are Proceed. But I don't think there was a $5000 difference in the picture or sound over the Arcam.
