They replace mine @ 2.5yrs old!

Just out of warranty I took my DVD-a310 to the local Panasonic repair shop & they wanted an Estimate Fee. I refused and the people there were pretty cool, handed me a phone and gave me an "800" number to call & complain. I did and the shop took it in for a free Evaluation. They called me a few days later and said that I needed to pay for either the part or labor, I forget which, and cost me about $120.00 for the repair.

About 90 days later it SH*T again and I got livid about it. I called Panasonic's customer compliant line again, and with no resolution in the foreseeable future ... another 3 to 6 months worth of relentless phone calls once or twice a week, making sure to deal with the same person each time and writing down the date-times and general gist of each conversation ...

ABSOLUTLY PISSED @ this point, I went to www.audioreview.com and printed out about 75 pages of complaints about this unit and visually scanned though each one, highlighted the "skipping, lock-up & unusable" type complaints, and took them and the player back to the repair center. The person who helped me before recognized me walking in the door and asked about my player. I handed her the unit and about a 3/4inch stack of complaints and told her that this can't be just my player, it's a national problem. She agreed and said that she'd see what she could do as there was an office next door to them that was part of the "National QC Division". Remember that when this player was new I paid just over $500.00 (plus the $120.00 for the repair) for it & that is not what I would consider to be a "disposable" player, or cash for all that matters.

The QC department called and said that they were going to replace the unit. About 2 weeks later, still no player. Another phone call placed … nothing. Another 2 weeks later I called and explained to the person on the other line that what I was about to say was not directed at them ... but directly at Panasonic. I UNLOADED my case and the new DVD-RV45 arrived at my door the very next day UPS RED!

I hope this helps,
Fish
