My Garmin watch is about 4 years old and was suffering badly from screen burn. The display became blotchy and dull and was getting harder and harder to read in the sun.
I thought of ditching it, but I really like it, and it was about $450 back then, so damn it! I didn't give up.
I ordered a new display. How hard could it be to crack it open and change the display over?
The bonus with a new display is that it will be as good as new. No scratches even.Removing and replacing seemed easy enough, except that when I rebooted it I got the dreaded Garmin "blue triangle of death" :-(
Nothing I could do could fix it.
I opened it back up and double checked the connectors.
I then swapped the old display back in. To my horror, the same blue triangle came up and stayed there, blinking at me.
I put it on charge for a while. No change.
Google! I googled. No help, except learning that they can be fussy and sometimes just go bad.
I spoke to a Garmin repairer who said the motherboard might be fried.......
But he suggested leaving it on charge for several hours.
No change.....
I was just about ready to throw it in the bin.But then I unplugged it, leaving the blue triangle on, thinking that in a few days the battery may be fully discharged and maybe then charging and restarting will kick it back to life.
So it sat on my bedside table with the blue triangle blinking. I checked a few times. Still blinking.
Then I checked maybe 4 hours later and the screen was off.
I plugged it into the charger and lo and behold, it booted up. Good as new.
The moral to the story is be patient and try everything ;-)
It was soooo close to the bin!
