It picked up a raft of Aussie film awards but went under the radar here. It's just out on DVD.A good video Ozfest might also include "Innocence", another wonderful little film from down under. I'd probably have to dig out my old VHS of "Proof" too, featuring Hugo Weaving and Russell Crowe, long before they were famous. (Think I saw this at 1991 Chicago Film Fest...long ago, anyway.) Hugo's pretty good in another older Oz film, "The Interview".
I have a fondness for Aussie & Kiwi cinema...I know we just mentioned "Once Were Warriors" in a thread below. Anybody see the sequel, What Becomes of the Brokenhearted? Anybody catch "The Navigator"?
Follow Ups:
I've not seen Innocence or Proof but The Interview and OWW were terrific. Another one that is memorable (the gist, but not the title) was about a standoff in a house somewhere in rural Oz. Very subtle humour as the entire surrounding community takes up stations around the house to watch the police try to work out the situation. One of the highlights was when the guy holding off the police had his dog shot...the dog survived much to my relief:-) Any clues to the name? I'd like to see it again.
