**Charlotte Gray has all the necessary elements to be a tense, sexy thriller, but **I think the guy who wrote the review you linked to just didn't get it. "Charlotte Gray" is low-key in much the same way "Au revoir les enfants" is. In my original post, I purposely described it as a drama rather than a thriller. Given the setting and plot, it's almost reflexive to call it a thriller as even the positive review I've linked to does. It's more of a character study, really, and doesn't even seem to try to build suspense, just lets the events unfold while focusing on Charlotte. I can see how some people might find it dull, but I certainly didn't. Maybe being a huge Blanchett fan helps.
