LOVE Spongebob. It's demented, layered, intelligent and hysterically funny. It obviously works on several levels, like some cartoons I watched as a kid that I see VERY differently now. I see the sexual innuendo, bathroom humor, and parody of life in general, but a gay subtext? That one eludes me.
Follow Ups:
Whenever I bring up the topic of a gay text on SpongeBob (usually at cocktail parties, parole meetings and sewing bees) there is usually a 50/50 split on those who get it and those who don't... no further comment.
But, I don't get it. I never thought "gay" when I see it.
But who cares, we all take something different from this cartoon. I'm a crazy fan, love this show. And it took some time to grow on me.I own both DVDs that are out now. MORE! I want more!
