Hardly a forgotten actor except for those who don't watch movies made prior to 1957. Power was a major "A" list actor who made more than his share of good movies. Two good ones are "Mark of Zorro", made in 1940, which co-starred Basil Rathbone. Power and (especially) Rathbone were excellent swordsmen (Rathbone had been a champion fencer) and their skill made the movie even better. I consider this the ultimate "Zorro" flick. The other film would be "Blood and Sand." This was a film about a bullfighter which was made in 1942. No classic - but close - and far better than the subsequent remakes.
The Power filmography is an interesting one.
Follow Ups:
I do not think that he can be classed as an great actor...Anyway his last one , the Billy´s one, was not an role for him...
Zorro...was a little effiminated...But I agree it is an classic.
The main point was that nobody speaks about him any more, Or am I wrong ?
He was a good actor who starred in many fine films.Yes, the character of Diego in "Zorro" was effeminate. It was meant to be so as he was supposed, by the authorities and his enemies, to be something of a fop and a dandy. He was the anthisesis of the macho Rathbone character, who considered Diego inconsequential.
I hear Power's name and see his movies often enough to say he isn't "forgotten." He's not super popular like, say, Jimmy Stewart or John Wayne have remained but he hasn't disappeared.
