Even though I'm thinking it will be out on vid in the next few weeks. So much (too) garbage coming out of Hollywood, thought it would be nice to see something, anything different. Fortunately, the film hasn't been oversold. A nice lilting little film. Made by someone who still loves the cinema, and respects the audience. Offhand, I can't think of a single filmaker today who does. Not one. A nice collection of visuals and sentiments, borne of very hard work (and none of them really new). Still a long reach that did not exceed it's grasp. Propelled by a surprising understanding of people and the worlds they inhabit.
Follow Ups:
...Clint Eastwood? Almodovar?
I could go with Pedro. Clint a little rigid/serious/linear/formal for me. There's a joyous freedom with Pedro's characters, and Sofia's cityscapes and internal microcosms.
