In Reply to: Farrelly Brothers to do Three Stooges movie. Are we ready? posted by clarkjohnsen on April 14, 2004 at 08:56:51:
As a child of single digit age (early 60’s) the Stooges were an after school “must see TV”. They use to come on channel 11 – WPIX in New York with “Officer Joe Bolton” doing the hosting (local announcer dressed in a police uniform and carrying a “nightstick”). Forty years later when AMC was running the Stooges my son (7 at the time) got hooked the same way I did and the reason was the comic genius of the Stooges. That combination of physical humor, sound effects and some of the corniest story lines in history put them in a class by themselves. Now don’t get me wrong I loved Laurel and Hardy (thought some of their shorts were even funnier than the Stooges) but The Stooges have stood the test of time (almost 70 years) and still can make just about anybody laugh. Just my $0.02.
Follow Ups:
...and another 2 cents...I totaly agree, Dwill. They must have been showing The Stooges "after school" all over America in the early 60's...the host here in Central Ohio was Flippo the Clown, a local lengend and on the air for more than twenty years.
FWIW, I still occassionally see my two grown sons bust a move a la Moe, Larry, and Curley...("hey, pick two").
