My introduction to this one was hearing it boom boom booming next door while trying to concentrate on "The Bridges of Madison County", the film I paid to see and perhaps the quietest movie ever made. I have come to love both films over time.In one of his many many roles, Gene hackman plays a believable, experienced and crusty nuclear submarine captain, whose authority is taken from him by his new executive officer Denzel Washington over the interpretation of wartime nuclear launch orders. Both actors are at their finest and the plot unfolds believably. James Gandolfini has a small supportive part. Cinematography and sound are top notch Hollywood. A good one.
Follow Ups:
near the end when, after being tortured by Hackman for the entire movie, does a version of a shuck and jive at the end. Hackman must have had the clout to make his character less evil.
