I caught this recently on DVD. Really enjoyed it.Wasn't too into the "Stomp" dancing sequences, and Zatoichi's battles against lesser opponents weren't too riveting, although the director/lead actor did make them look good (like the rain against a blue sky).
The sword battles are very quick (one well-placed blow wins the fight) rather than a bunch of clanging swords. I mostly liked how the film showcases the strategy of Zatoichi and the gang's bodyguard in their two encounters - between them, the battle is already won or lost by how each one chooses to draw his sword. Very well thought out scenes. I watched the last fight a few times to catch every bit of strategy between the two fighters.
