Suggest his characterless appeal is universally identifiable; and "safe". "Gee, that could be my monosyllabic dumb hunk of a husband up there on the screen!"

There must be an awful lot of men fall into this dubious category; as Costner has been around for a while

Consider myself fairly warned against "Upside" but just having Kevin Costner on board should have been warning enough, his most appealing role to date is in the Big Chill as the corpse, where the editor wisely saw fit to leave him on the cutting room floor

He's just passable as an immature cowboy in "Silverado"
