Steiger was never short of roles and played every one of them to perfection
Even his bad films ( eg The Sergeant ) are still way better than most

Brandos momentum was fueled by his early films where he was "cute", and as such a box-office draw, something that Steiger never had going for him

Rod Steiger was an actors actor, he maintained his craft his entire career without ever becoming irrelevant, or becoming a parody of himself (or a fat slob like you-know-who)
