Although it is a typical Hollywood sports movie, "Coach Carter" is very well done. Samuel L. Jackson stars as the coach in this story , which is based on real events in Richmond, California. The coach takes over a surly and undisciplined group of high schoolers and requires them to sign contracts promising to maintain a high grade point average in order to be able to play basketball. At one point when some of their grades slip he locks the gym and risks forfeiting games, much to the intense displeasure of both students and their parents. As I said, ridden with sports movie cliches but still enjoyable and well done.
