I have not had chance to carefully compare the two side by side - would be a difficult task. But I watched a part of the English one after seeing the German, and I thought the ending in the English version was stronger. Particularly the scene where the boss removes the jacket from the hero... in the German one he adds several sentences that are completely missing in the English film, and that silence makes it much, much more poignant, as the German words seem too trivial, given what the scene itself already tells us.Are there other such moments in the two? The English one is longer... so I am wondering if I should revisit it?

shot simultaneously in German and English? Of those I find the German version superior with the English version a bit less so. Both are vastly superior to the 1959 Edward Dmytryk version, which is a pretty good film but a very weak sister compared to the original.
well I only knows the German one and what is left to say as " Classic "!
