First the title of this one is attractive.
Is the film too?
I saw it as a mixed bag.
It has good period, nice actors.
Want to break some taboos that most of us donīt have anymore, do not forget, Brazil=Catholic.
In fact a very conventional film, save for its immoral, and that is the turning point.
Not wanting to make a movie like many others, wonīt make you a genius.
No it wonīt.
And the threshold of the immorality here is also its weak point, because it is amoral and violent and egoistical.
The end is quite well made.
Follow Ups:
I think I liked it a bit more than you did - I remember generally enjoying it, even though it definitely had weak moments.Put against the American film production it would probably have scored in the high-90 percentile.
The best and the more inventive scene is the last one, too bad not all of the film could match it.
90% to 95 %
