The Chetyre (Russian for Four) is the latest and perhaps the most scandalous of the recent Russian movies, and based on what I have been able to read about it - a must for certain "advanced" individuals here.Too bad you can't read the Russian press about it, but as the second best - read the user reviews on imdb:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0445161/
While being accused of painting a too grim a picture, the director responds that the modern Russian life is actually far grimmer... and he has good reason to say that, as unlike most "intellectuals" he spent four years making this film not in Moscow, among the super-modern shops and restaurants, driving a Benz to his office, but in Novgorodskays region, in the belly of Mother Russia.
Four years in Nizhny Novgorod area should be enough to change persons's outlook, and apparently it did.
Please read the reviews, and I sincerely hope they will wet your appetite. As they say - not a movie for everyone, but if you consider yourself a hard core movie buff, and find yourself lucky enough to get your hands on it - heck, I would give a good bottle of vodka for that chance! But I am afraid I will have to wait for my next trip to Russia to see it.
