perhaps considering suicide, or homicide
an understanding love interest
a blase setting
supporting characters with interesting personality quirks
a clever twist that forms the basis for most of the plot
a slight mystery, probably relating to the plot twist
denouement, with some story threads left dangling
cue obscure folk/rock/indie music

optional: secondary love interest, copious substance abuse, sex and/or violence

Sundance will be aching to give you the little stamp to put on the end of your trailer
