Constant Gardner made his honourable mention list (he had two honoruable mention sections.I saw Crash last night and I liked it - want to see it again. I was not expecting much given some of the bashing it has taken by some on forums but I don't think it was at all preachy. Slice of life films with multiple stories compressed into a film "hand pick" the events the storyteller wants to tell.
My only problem, which is not a real big one, is that because there are several stories going on with several people and not a lot of time, we never really get to know anybody very well so it's more about the message or themes than the people. I felt that way about a movie called Traffic several years ago -- but Crash is even more Aloof. (all based on one viewing though).
Interestingly this film reminds me a bit of Grand Canyon in the early 1990's which was preachy but IMO still effective.
