Religious people tend not to see the link between being anti- Gay and anti-black -- they say something like "we love you but we hate your sin" or some such nonsense. But then those whackos' still think being Gay is a choice and the earth is 20,000 years old - and well that they hear God. Most people who hear voices are sent to asylums -- but the US elects them as president so I would not expect things to change anytime soon.

Just so they don't come to this asylum... :)Alas, I think you are right and the tolerance I yearn to see is lacking at this point.
I have been accused of not being tolerant to Religious people. So it spreads -- but I have a tough time being tolerant to the intolerant. Religion is 100% about control -- ministers priests evangeluists want to control others. Religious people want to be controlled - they want a book and a priest telling them how they should eat breath licve and most of all THINK. It's why Bush has to merely use God's will every speech and why the sheep lap it up. Remove any complex grey issue for the mere "he's bad let's kill him" approach. Proof? Well shoot first ask questions later. It'll be interesting to see now that his highly touted democracy push in Palestine has them elect a terrorist organization. The interesting thing is that a dictator is almost a matter of relativity these days.
Compare Castro to Bush. Castro has managed full health care and a much higher literacy rate without the ability to trade and basically no money. Bush -- well he can spy on anyone in the country tap your phones detain you -- He jsut keeps the citizenry pacified so they won't revolt. Fatten the people up enough so they won't want to risk what they have.
But hey behind all that is the one voice the one God telling him that his is the path of righteousness for God only blesses America - and thus God only blesses the American President. Ask Pat Robertson and he'll say Sharon is punished by God for trying to carve up God's temple -- now ask him to explaim Huricaine Katrina? If I were religious I'd think gee maybe that's a punishment for attacking Iraq for no reason. But nah -- that link would never be made.
I'm intolerant of religion because religion is intolerant of anyone who does not fit exactly the mold they require. Gotta go with Bill Maher on this -- "there are the people who voted republican and then there are the sane." :-0
