Watched this on Discovery Channel last night. Definately do the rental as the start/stop due to all the commercials is a momentum killer. Anyway, I found this film to be most disturbing. In fact I am still thinking about it this morning. TT was clearly suffering from some type of mental illness - as a layman I'd go with manic depression. And his deterorating mental state was certainly exacerbated by long stints (mostly) solo in the deep wilderness. The film does a good job of showing TT's slow drift away from "reality" and further into his own head, where he convinces himself that he can (needs to?) live in harmony with grizzlys, foxes, etc. I think the film does a good job of not portraying TT as a martyr or even a heroic figure, but as a guy struggling to find a comfortable balance between the demands of society and the demands of his inner self. Ultimately, he indulges too much in the latter and pays the price.
