The Eric Liddell character's faith always effects me. His race at the Olympics with his voice over saying, "God made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure" along with the way his face becomes ecstatic gets me every time (and I'm neither Christian or religious)."Where are we going? And what am I doing in this hand basket?"

I have the very same reaction to that scene. The other one that gets me every time is Sam Mussabini, (beautifully played by the great Ian Holm) all alone in his hotel room as he hears the sound of God Save The Queen being played, thus revealing that Harold has won the race ("Harold......my son").
