The DVD extras cite "Network" as an influence on this story of a "slow" maintenance worker (John Travolta) at a museum of natural history who after being fired shows up with a shotgun amd dynamite to intimidate his boss (Blythe Danner). By pure coincidence a formwer network correspondent now reduced to working for an affiliate (Dustin Hoffman) is there and immediately smells a major story. Travolta accidently shoots another maintenence worker and also intimidates a group of visiting children. Travolta then holds everyone hostage and as the story grows Hoffman's arch rival (Alan Alda) shows up to steal the mic and cameras. This is a compelling tale of how the media now makes the news rather than reporting on it.
