Clark, VK and TE's raving about this one led me to finally see it. Wow! What a beautiful and poignant film. Full of depth and nuance without insulting the viewer, giving itself away or ever resorting to being trite. The younger brother did an amazing job with quite a range of emotions and while the story was almost a sketch it was (for me) never less than compelling. To top it off it was was extremely (and sparely) beautifully photographed... it truly gave one a feeling of being in the different environments both physical and emotional. If I could change one thing it would be to have gotten - for purely lustful reasons - to see more of the mother. Of course that would have upset the balance of the film.Nina's Tragedies is an Israeli coming of age story about a difficult time in a woman's life mostly seen through the eyes of an early teenage nephew who's fallen for her... hard. One could nit-pick things about this film but it drew me in and I felt, having been there, that it gave a very accurate portrayel of what it feeels like to be a boy and have it bad for a beautiful woman. I would say it's worth seeing while I would say The Return is a must see.
