closet thing.
I felt like I'd just wasted a few hours on a pretty average shaggy dog story. Joachim seemed very miscast as a "normal" guy. He just looks bizarre. An average Joe he ain't.
Follow Ups:
M Night is often Good Night, methinks.
While subtle surprises and plot twists are the director's specialty, he needs to realize that a little of that goes a long way. Too much shows how clever he is but it also shows that that cleverness masks a strong lack of imagination.Instead of plotting we get plodding. He makes a 110 minute film seem like 410 minutes!
I don't want him to make dumb action films ala Veerhoven or, much worse, something like "Commando." I would like him to pick up the pace and give his interesting characters (and he does present very interesting characters) something to do. He's clever, but so was Hitchcock and so is Tarentino and they are both far more interesting filmmakers. I give M. Night a C+. His films are not bad films but they could be so much better.
