This is aimed squarely at the indie movie crowd, and the characters are all, without exception, weird and quirky. This is almost an indie movie cliche at this point. But it all depends on execution. And for the most part, they are brought to life. The horny old goat of a grandfather is funny. The ultra-depressed and alienated teenage son is much less so. Steve Carell and Greg Kinear are as good as they usually are in oddball character roles. The daughter is very good. Some good laughs, and an even sort of heartwarming conclusion. I'm a sucker for this kind of thing myself.
