silent films are, and yet a worshipper of just about any Fx crapola.
No insult meant, auph, but you must have at least a dual-personality!
Follow Ups:
Most of those FX type of films I appreciate are well done and story/character driven or I don't add them to my DVD collection. Some of the films I enjoy are admittedly guilty pleasure material (serials, Jet Li martial arts, 50's SF, old filmed & kinoscoped TV series and classic rock video for instance), but finding that rare curiosity is part of the FUN aspect of collecting, is it not? However, if by 'dual-personality' you mean that having rather diverse tastes in cinema makes one's interests appear unfocused, perhaps even slap-dash, then I plea nolo contendere; it's bound to happen in the course of amassing a sizeable film collection. BTW, our DVD library is rapidly approaching 1000 films, TV series & music videos (YIKES!), so I guess you could say that my wife & I are a bit obsessive/compulsive about our video collecting/watching habits.
FTR, the only thing I try to avoid is European schlock films (soapy, pretentious crap, which I tend to call Grey Poupon). Note: There is GOOD European cinema, but I draw the line at abstract storytelling and vague symbolism, so even some of films considered to be "classics" by the critical elite don't appeal to me in the slightest.
