I remember thinking about the similarity between them too but with just a passing thought, maybe it was a clue as to the direction the movie was going? We are probably reading too much into it - based on reviews of many directors I have seen, these things are often coincidents...

I actully laughed many times in this movie, I think it may have to do with a script that keeps you on your toes by being so cleverly written - you are more likely to react because there is no time for you to manage yourself and reactions.
