Slight possible spoiler but not really.Joan Plowright stars as a women who moves into a hotel in London to avoid her family having decided, as she says, that having spent her life defined by relationships (daughter, wife, mother) she wants to spend the rest of her life as herself.
She meets an unsuccessful young writer and he starts to write about her. They fulfill a need in that he finds inspiration and she finds someone to care about.
A lot of the camerawork is closeup and the acting is uniformly better than anything you will see in the next year.
It is funny and it is sad and it is completely wonderful.
This is an absolute must see.
Its low key and very British, oh, and it seems to rain half the time in London.
It is very life affirming.
I'll say it again... GO AND SEE THIS FILM.
Follow Ups:
...it isn't out on DVD yet, but I'll be on the lookout for it
It was quite an experience.
The two main younger characters are so... smooth skinned by contrast.
The character of the hotel employee/doorman is wonderfully done. Oh and the waitress.... I could pick them all out... the other hotel guests... at times its almost like looking at a Breugel.
I am sure you will enjoy it immensley
