In Reply to: Is analyzing drama is the business of people who don't get the drama to begin with? Or is that... posted by clarkjohnsen on November 18, 2006 at 08:30:06:
It's just that when anyone dissects comedy they come off as pretentious or an unfunny stiff.Analyzing comedy is like trying to analyze why something is beautiful, or why a song is catchy. You can try, but your attempt will be halfassed and silly.

... any more (or less) than analysing food or music is supposed to be funny. Nor is analysing food supposed to be tasty...
It seems to me to be as valid to try to explain why you don't find something funny as why you do.
If no analysis is going to appear here then all we need is a title and a thumbs up or down.
Now, I do think that a critique by someone who knows what they are talking about is better than one by someone who doesn't. Not to invalidate the opinion of the relative ignoramus... after all we have all been that when we first discovered something!
But isn't this supposed to be a discussion forum rather than just abunch of cheerleaders?
I don't think either clark or myself in a cheerleader outfit would do anything other than cause mass hilarity... and absolutely NO need for analysis!
