"Nobody Knows" is the heartbreaking story of four children abandoned by their mother in a small apartment somewhere in Japan. Akira, age 12, does everything possible to help his younger siblings survive while desperately trying to maintain "face." There is hardly any music and many long scenes where the camera remains motionless, allowing the viewer's emotions to build slowly. This Japanese film is based on a true story and is the best foreign film I have seen all year. Runs this Saturday just past midnight on Encore.

I remember it quite well, and wanted to see what I had written on it at the time, but could not find my post... and I thought there was one. From the distance of time I can't tell whether I would agree with your very high praise, but at the very least it was a memorable experience.
