I think this is one of the Coen Brothers' finest and I watch it every New Year's Eve. I like its quirkiness and the many references to other films, p[articularly "Superman" (the employment titles, Durning and Robbins "flying", the double Hula Hoops), "Citizen Kane"(the train car newspaper montage and the "ignomy" quote), "The Terminator" (the fight in the clockwork) and others. Carter Burwell's old fashioned "epic movie meets Copeland" score is always a pleasure, and the entire film is a joy. If you haven't seen it I urge you to give it a try.
