I did see the lack of digital stablization in the camcorders which is something completely different. What I saw in the Gladiator VHS casette was almost claymation type motion that is indicative of DVD's strobing which necessitates 3:2 pull down.

I think what you're seeing is very much part of the editing. I remember those types of things in the film at the theater -- a kind of almost "stop-motion" effect, right?
