Rather, it's the very powerful portrayal of the characters by the three principals: you care about them and, when violence occurs, you are very aware these are not "types" but individuals.
The beginning, be forewarned, will not immediately draw you in. Be patient and you'll be rewarded with a film as powerful as "The Pusher," though very different.
