Part of the problem of this film is that the "heroine" is a child killer, inadvertent or not.
It also serves the purpose, intentional or not, of leveling the morality of those that purposefully and regularly kill and those which do so inadvertently.
Blanchett isn't one of my favorite actresses in spite of her having had so many wonderful roles over the years. She seems "transparent," ethereal, wispy...flimsy.

Sorry about the spoilers -- I read a few reviews after I watched the movie and they all revealed many of the same things as me. It is tough to describe the movie without giving some things away.We'll have to disagree on Cate B as I have really come to admire her style and understatement. I find too much "overacting" in a lot of actors.
fact, I have a hard time separating her from another pale actress...
