I was on the fence about Viggo Mortensen until I saw A History Of Violence... I think he exemplifies the traits: "magnetic, electrifying, compelling, charismatic" as you describe.

That is a great one.And Cronenberg put a near perfect film together, as far as I'm concerned. I felt about him like you described your ambivalence for Mortensen. I see him with new eyes after that.
