This German film about the Stasi (state security) in the latter days of the division of Germany is a devastatingly good film.
Showing the unrelenting mundanity of life for both watched and watcher, shot in dull colours and devoid of anything remotely glamourous, except the human spirit, it left me feeling emotionally wrecked.
Simply put, this is a film you have to see.
If you don't you will miss something special.
No spoilers. No plot give aways.
Just see it.
Follow Ups:
it was an okay film, not much more, excepting the very good performance of the principal spook.
If this film is "great," what is left to describe a monumentally better film like "Z?"
It's so easy to pick on communist targets: they've become the target du jour, like Nazi-era Germany has been for decades.
