Hi Victor, I haven't been here to AA in a long, long time, but I just found a place that sells Solaris on DVD and I thought of you. I ordered it based on your past remarks alone-- and I thought you might be interested also as this is not an easy disc to aquire. The video transfer (Region 0, NTSC) is supposed to be excellent, and I believe there's also a CD with the Soundtrack included as well. The disc is in Russian 5.1 with a large number of subtitle language choices, including English.

Thank you, Robert, this is an interesting site. It is the same outfit my wife buys many books from, so I constantly see the bills with that name plus the catalogues - but I didn't know they had a site.I checked their video selection and it is still quite lean, plus the site is not well constructed, but hopefully that will keep changing. I will probably buy that DVD soon, and I wish they made their DVD's a bit less costly.
But for anyone interested, they have the two films that I listed before among the best Russian war films: The Cranes are Flying and Ballad of a Soldier.
It is good that they are transfering good films to DVD's, and I hope thay still have not lost all their movies-related expertise, as most what has been coming from Russia lately has been mostly your typical Holywood wannabe junk.
