A Zory Zdes' Tikhie is brilliant, The Cranes are Flying is all-time classic, plus few more:"Nobody Wanted to Die" - an absolutely fantastic film with great actors, takes place right after the war, but a must.
"Destiny of a Man" - film by Bondarchuk. Also with him: "Story of a Real Man"
"Khronika Pikiruiuschego Bombardirovschika" - soft-touch war move, with great Oleg Dal'.
"The Immortal Garrison", "The Sky Slow-Mover", "Lad From Our Town" - all these with wonderful, wonderful Nikolai Kryutchkov
"Secret Agent" or "The Scout's Exploits" with Pavel Kadochnikov, of Ivan the Terrible (the idiot cousin) fame. Entertaining flick.
A great, great film, even though not about the WWII, but rather the Civil war: "Thirteen". You will see that plot later used in "Sakhara" with Bogart.
"Vesna na Odere" - with one of the most beautiful Russian actresses ever, Liudmila Chursina.
"Trouble Business" with one of the all-time Russian greatest - Mikhail Zharov (Maliuta Skuratov in Ivan)
If you sort of liked Dr. Zhivago but thought it fell short, then "The Flight" should be about perfect. This is simply an INCREDIBLE film with too many stars to list. An absolute must.
