What surprised me, in spite of the advance hype, was what I considered the lack of chemistry between Crowe and Ryan. If that's electricity, I need a battery charge.Actually, the most interesting performance in the film and the most fleshed-out character was the guy who played Ryan's hostage husband -- and I can't even remember his name! Shame on me. Of all the actors, he's the one who has to portray the emotional transformation -- the before and after -- of someone who has been through such a harrowing experience. And I think he does it quite convincingly.
So, in the middle of this action/romance star vehicle for Crowe and Ryan, you discover a real story, portrayed by a real actor who knows his craft.
Kind of a nice surprise, I think.

I agree. But the movie worked on other levels for me as well. The plot kept my attention, and the action was pretty good.
