I will do so. I saw this when it came out as a young teenager and found it baffling and incomprehensible. Now, having seen it maybe 10 times since then, I love it for its ambiguity. What happens in this movie? There is no one correct answer, every viewer must form his own interpretation, and this interpretation will change with further thought. Kubrick used wonderful music throughout and this was my first exposure to the mysterious Lux Eterna by Ligeti. This is one movie that rewards repeated viewings, at least for me.
Follow Ups:
Not normally a denizen of these parts, I'll not get too crazy (though I'm quite familiar with film, being friends with several in "the industry").
I will say, that even on mute this is a fantastic film. Add the music, and it gets better still. The simplicity of the camerawork when showing complex motion is astounding. The dialog leaves something to be desired occasionally, but only in comparison with the stunning visuals and score.
I've said my piece.
If one adjusts one's expectations, I agree with you. It's an "experience" as audiophilander says, below. But as drama, a narrative, it ain't much. The best scenes are the ones with no dialogue, just music and visuals.
