In Reply to: Ending of the first Lord of the Rings film?(possible spoilers) posted by Ears on December 03, 2001 at 15:41:46:
Hi,
I had hopes they would finally do a decent LOTR movie. But where are the Hobbits? Not sure I'm interested in seeing another fond memory slowly gutted onscreen by Hollywood.
Follow Ups:
Previews look good & I've seen the making-of short. No one knows until it's released, but all the major Hobbit characters are in the film, all properly scaled from what I've seen so far, hairy feet and all. The director is a LOTR fanatic, a New Zealander best known for his independent film "Heavenly Creatures". Film was also shot in NZ and locations look stunning. I have hopes for this series, we'll all know soon.
I've downloaded a couple of the trailers, and it looks like they've done a good job of adjusting the sizes of the different beings. Hobbits appear to be about 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall. I'd pictured hobbits a slightly more heavy-set than they look in the film, but it's still nice work. Nice casting all around, too. The characters as portrayed in the film have insinuated themselves into my "mind's eye" as I read through Lord of the Rings this time.
