In Reply to: Ending of the first Lord of the Rings film?(possible spoilers) posted by Ears on December 03, 2001 at 15:41:46:
It probably won't be a big problem as an awful lot IS resolved by the end of The Fellowship of the Ring. By that time we've got to know many of the major characters and had the excitement of the episodes with the Black Riders and the Balrog. Both Elrond & Galadrial have been encountered, Gandalf is dead (nudge, nudge) and Boromir appears towards the end as the "surprise" villain. The breaking of the fellowship itself can be set as an heroic "resolution" on Frodo's part. They'll most likely portray Frodo and Sam (who is of course the TRUE hero of LOTR) sailing off down river to their heroic fate as the climax of the first part - and so it is.
