Does anybody else remember the animated Lord of The Rings done by Ralph Bakshi ? This was late 70's or so. It was alot of rotoscope. It was supposed to be a trilogy but was never finished. I got drug against my will to see it but by the end was really enjoying it. Seemingly out of nowhere came a full screen card "To be continued". I waited and waited and the pricks never finished it.

Follow Ups:
You can get the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and Return of the King on DVD. Of course, only LOTR's was directed by Bakshi. The other two are goofy Rankin & Bass productions. But they might actually be better versions for the young children (got to love those musical #'s!).
Having seen the Bakshi version during it's initial run, I'm sorry to say that it just wasn't very memorable for me. The recent release succeeds in connecting with the audience where Bakshi's version left me cold.Personally, I don't think that Lord of the Rings benefits from the limited animation and layered rotoscoping techniques Bakshi employed. Of course this is just my opinion; YMMV.
