In Reply to: Alan Tanner movies opinions please... posted by Ruben on December 28, 2001 at 11:30:18:
I saw this movie when it made a run through the Art houses many long years ago. It's in the same vien as The Return of the Secaucus Seven and The Big Chill but is better than both of them. I bought the video for my son's film school grad girlfriend.
Follow Ups:
I personally have a fairly deep appreciation for several of Tanner's films. In particular "Jonah Who Will be 25 in the Year 2000" stands out as a rather inspiring and insightful slab o' cinema well worth seeking out, along with 'In the White City'. I did also like 'Messidor', though to a lesser degree, and had mixed feelings on 'La Salamandre'. I wouldn't necessarily argue with the other thread contributor's opinion of 'La Salamandre' as poetic and boring, although I may need to watch it again before dismissing it as a non-essential part of Tanner's filmography.
