Edison, who invented the kinetoscope, established the first shooting stages for movies. They were built on huge turntables that swung with the sun, so as to use all available daylight in New Jersey. Before long the New York crowd -- let's leave the description there -- muscled into the act and soon, to avoid the long arms of Edison's patent attorneys, moved as far away as they could. And in CA they successfully subverted the patents.clark
