In Reply to: Pedro Almodovar; they're all good! posted by gware on February 07, 2002 at 20:19:32:
He is VERY good, but I certainly would not say that he was even either. Some of his work was just OK. Penelope was good there but still not much of an actress, you take away her appearance (responsible for about 80% of that role's success) and below there is not much.I loved "Mother" and I always loved his treatment of RED RED RED RED. When the transfer is good and display right it is mesmerizing.
But Pedro is still no Bunuel and never will be, as his texture is just too light. He is no philosopher.
Follow Ups:
very hard to find; but worth the hunt; "My Last Breath" (I've seen it titled as "My Final Breath") is Bunuel's (print!) autobiography.
It's the finest self penned life story of anyone I've yet read in the Film business; truly a case of truth being stranger than fiction; an extraordinary man living in an extraordinary time.
